Robert Erickson is a senior in the Weidner Property Management and Real Estate Program at UAA. He says he was initially interested in the program, because it provided a focus for him to advance in his business career. “I saw it as a great opportunity to learn about property management and real estate to then potentially invest in property,” says Erickson.

Over the summer, BA A306 Real Estate Principles was approved by the AK Real Estate Commission to become an accredited “Pre-licensing Education” course. Now, students can learn about the real estate industry, earn college credit, and upon completion of this course have met the education requirements needed for an Alaska Real Estate Salesperson License.

The Weidner Property Management and Real Estate Program at the College of Business and Public Policy has $28,800 in academic and travel awards available. Amanda Doughty, junior at UAA, was one of six students, nationally, to receive a travel scholarship funded by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM®) Foundation. The scholarship, aimed at introducing students to the vast career opportunities in property management and real estate, included airfare, lodging, registration, and per diem for Amanda to attend the IREM® Fall Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida from October 14-19.
