Learn about business in an exciting and interactive way in our FREE academies!
- Leadership, Hospitality, Accounting / Personal Finance, Data Analytics, and Entrepreneurship Academies for 10-12th graders
- Accounting / Personal Finance Academy for rising 7th-9th graders
- All day sessions from 9 am to 4 pm
- Lunch included
- Experience college life; sessions are located at Rasmuson Hall on UAA's campus

- Meet with accounting professionals and get to know what their jobs are like.
- Learn why a career in accounting could be for you!
- Find out how to get a head start by earning an Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) in Bookkeeping while you are in high school!
Deadline for applications is May 12th, 2023.

We are offering five free academies for students going into 10th-12th grade + 2023 graduates.
You can attend all, or pick and choose the topics that most interest you.
Most academies are held for one day from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Hospitality Academy is held over two days from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Leadership Academy – May 31 with Dr. Terry Nelson and Dr. Kori Callison
Leadership exists everywhere, even in our day-to-day lives. Can everyone be a Leader? Are Leaders born or developed? What does it take to be an effective leader? Join in a lively conversation about leading in today’s world, including the challenges and opportunities in teamwork, and how you can improve your leadership skills.
Hospitality Academy – June 1 and 2 with Dr. Amy Green
Day 1 – on UAA campus at Cuddy Hall
Hotels, catering, restaurants, food trucks, bakeries. Learn how to develop business ideas and concepts in the Hospitality Industry. Hear
from local restaurant owners and hotel professionals about career opportunities. Explore
hospitality programs & courses at UAA. Guest speakers, demos, activities, lunch &
snacks provided.
Day 2 – Downtown Anchorage
Hotel and Restaurant tour. Meet at a local hotel as a homebase then venture out on a walking tour of hospitality
operations in downtown Anchorage. Lunch provided.
Note: This Academy requires participation over both days.
Accounting / Personal Finance Academy – June 6 with Professor Stasia Straley

Data Analytics Academy – June 7 with Dr. Brett Watson
Every day, massive amounts of data are created and stored. How can people and businesses use this data to make decisions? This one day workshop will introduce students to the models and computer software that economists use to analyze data and answer questions about our world.
Entrepreneurship Academy – June 8 with Dr. Terry Nelson and Dr. Kori Callison
Have you ever thought about starting your own business? Maybe a side hustle?
You are not alone! Alaska’s small business sector employs 52% of people in the private workforce. Small firms produce more than half of all innovations.
In this interactive session, be prepared to be creative and innovative as we explore the steps that are key to becoming an entrepreneur
