Dr. Omer L. Carey

In Tribute: Dr. Omer L. Carey, Professor Emeritus and Former Dean of the College

Dr. Omer L. Carey arrived in Alaska in 1973, after having taught at several universities. He began teaching at the School of Business and Public Administration, which later became the College of Business and Public Policy. Over the years he served the College as professor, Department Chair, and Dean.

CBPP Dean’s Office Awards 2021 Scholarships

The Dean’s Office has awarded twenty-three students with scholarships to continue their studies in the College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP). Recipients are selected by CBPP’s Scholarship Committee on the basis of merit, talent, or leadership/community involvement.

Hirshberg named Vice-President Academic of the University of the Arctic

University of the Arctic Names Dr. Diane Hirshberg as Vice-President Academic

Dr. Diane Hirshberg has been named Vice-President Academic of the University of the Arctic (UArctic), a collaborative network of universities, colleges, and other organizations committed to higher education and research in the North. In this role Hirshberg plans to highlight some of UArctic’s exceptional academic programming, identify best practices for offering academic opportunities and increase those offerings.

Pat Moores and Fannie Slaten staff emerita

Moores and Slaten Honored With Staff Emerita Rank

The rank of Staff Emerita was conferred upon Pat Moores and Fannie Slaten during UAA commencement ceremonies earlier in December. This high honor is in recognition of distinguished careers at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and was recommended by their colleagues with the concurrence of the Chancellor’s Cabinet. Both Pat and Fannie retired this year after long service with the College of Business and Public Policy.

Tom Case Leadership Fellows Organize Food Drive for Children

As part of their participation in the Tom Case Leadership Fellows program, students create and lead a community service project in our community that is meaningful to them. This year, one of the students groups has organized a food and fund drive to benefit youth who rely on Boys & Girls Clubs for nutritious meals.
