$35,000 in CBPP Spring 2024 Competitive Scholarships Awarded

December 19, 2023

The College of Business and Public Policy Dean’s Office announced $35,000 in scholarships were awarded to 30 CBPP undergraduate and graduate students. These include the Dean’s Competitive Administration Scholarship and the Seawolf Investment Fund Scholarship.

“The College of Business and Public Policy is committed to preparing students to become leaders in a rapidly changing world. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is impacting the business world. It’s transforming the way companies operate and creating new opportunities for growth,” said John Nofsinger, Dean.

“To meet that challenge, this year the 24 Dean’s Competitive Administration Scholarship recipients submitted an additional essay to explain how Artificial Intelligence (AI) will impact their major and future business career,” he said. A total of $30,000 was awarded in Dean’s Competitive Administration Scholarships.

"In addition, for the first time, we selected the top three CBPP students to receive an additional $1,100 total for their dedication and commitment to their academic success," said Nofsinger.

The Seawolf Investment Fund Scholarship was awarded for the second time this year, three finance and accounting students received a total of $5,000. This fund was established in 2021 with a gift from Gary and Jane Cuddy Klopfer. This fund provides CBPP students with real-world experiential learning as they practice and hone investment management strategies. Earnings from the fund will serve as a source of scholarships for accounting and finance students into the future.

"Each year it’s rewarding to provide financial support to students who are excelling," said Nofsinger. "It’s fulfilling to award the Seawolf Investment Fund Scholarships, knowing they are a product of our own finance students’ careful study and management of the Seawolf Investment Fund."

Nofsinger concluded, “I’d like to thank all our students who took time to apply, as well as the members of the CBPP Scholarship Committee for their careful review of the scholarship applications.”

As CBPP students, we will continue to invest in your success. More than 35 additional scholarship funds are available from donors for our business students from the Alaska Foundation. Apply today for opportunities through the University of Alaska Foundation. The application deadline is coming up on February 15.

Congratulations to the 30 Spring 2024 Scholarship recipients…
