ANCSA: Women in the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act; March 23rd 2018

Alaska Native Corporations were formed when Congress passed the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 in response to a rise in native activism and pressure from oil companies to smooth the path for a trans-Alaska pipeline after oil was discovered in 1968.

Economics Alumna Marlaina Ross is Headed to Indonesia

Marlaina Ross, BA Economics 2017, is currently pursuing a MA in International Affairs with a concentration in International Economics at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Next summer she will be working for Planet Indonesia, assisting with the restructuring of PI’s community capital fund, a village level savings and loans program.

Alaska Society of CPAs Paul Hagelbarger Scholarships Awarded

Alaska Society of CPAs (AKCPA) Board of Director and UAA Professor, Stasia Straley, and AKCPA Executive Director, Crista Burson, presented $2,000 Paul Hagelbarger Scholarships to winners at UAA. UAA winners are Val Dorofeeva, Molly Monaghan & Hyun Teresa Lee.

Accounting Club 9 in the Spine Display

Accounting Club Wins Annual ‘9 in the Spine’ Event

The Accounting Club claimed their 4th win in 5 years for the annual Nine in the Spine event! This event, organized by the UAA Alumni Association, raises money for student scholarships. The Accounting Club beat out 23 other student clubs with a Hawaiian theme this year.

The College of Business and Public Policy Goes to China

In early December 2017, a UAA CBPP delegation visited two of our partner institutions in Changchun, China. The main goal was to sign an agreement for a partnership with Jilin University of Finance and Economics (JUFE), for JUFE students to complete a BA Economics degree at UAA. CBPP and JUFE personal connections go back many years, as CBPP has hosted several JUFE visiting faculty in recent years. An additional goal of the trip was to reconnect with the leadership and the faculty from Northeast Normal University (NENU), to reciprocate for their recent visit to Anchorage in summer 2017, under the leadership of Vice President Baojun Ding.
