Dr. Terry Nelson Recognized as an Inspiring Teacher
Dr. Terry A. Nelson was recently recognized at the 24th Annual Institute on Teaching and Mentoring hosted by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) as an inspiring teacher. The SREB’s Doctoral Scholars Program prepares minority Ph.D. scholars to enter college classrooms and teach the next generation. Dr. Nelson is a 2013 graduate of the program. She was one of six scholars that the Institute on Teaching and Mentoring featured as an inspiring teacher.

The College of Business and Public Policy's Tom Case Leadership Fellows Program pairs high-performing CBPP students with a mentor in the Anchorage business community, giving students the opportunity to learn about real-world leadership from local business leaders. To begin the program, each student protégé interviewed their new mentor. Today’s featured protégé/mentor interview is Karen Denton, and her mentor Megan Patton, Controller, ASRC Energy Services, LLC.

Kevin Berry joined ISER as an assistant professor of economics in January 2017, with a joint appointment in UAA's economics department. His research interests include natural capital, endogenous risk, dynamic optimization, social-ecological systems, bio-economic modeling, and applied econometrics.

Alaska Native Corporations were formed when Congress passed the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 in response to a rise in native activism and pressure from oil companies to smooth the path for a trans-Alaska pipeline after oil was discovered in 1968.
