Moderna is a pioneer in the field of mRNA medicines. Its Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer, Dr. Dave Johnson, joins our AI webinar series to discuss the impact of AI on their development. In addition to developing a vaccine against Covid-19, Moderna has over 40 additional vaccines and therapeutics in its development pipeline. A key component of Moderna’s success so far has been its focus on enabling all parts of its business with digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. Johnson will explore Moderna’s work to advance new mRNA medicines and how digital and AI are helping to accelerate that goal. He will also dive into several real-world examples of AI at Moderna that are delivering meaningful business impact.

As Moderna’s Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer, Johnson is responsible for all enterprise data capabilities, including data engineering, data visualization, data science, and software engineering. He holds a PhD in Information Physics and has over 15 years of experience in software engineering and data science. Johnson has spent more than a decade working exclusively in enterprise pharma and biotech companies.

Dr. Helena S. Wisniewski, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Chair of the Management, Marketing, Logistics and Business Analytics Department in the College of Business and Public Policy organizes the AI webinar series. “We are excited that Dr. Johnson will give us insight into the exciting world of mRNA technology and advances made possible with artificial intelligence,” Wisniewski said. “The convergence of technologies is rapidly changing our world. We are committed to giving our students and the broader community opportunities to hear current information from working AI experts. Our series has highlighted real-world applications such as self-driving vehicles, F-35 tactical jets, investing, health data, spinal surgery, and digital twin technology. Dr. Johnson’s presentation will help us understand how Moderna has accomplished ground-breaking work in the mRNA space - with a global impact on healthcare options.”
