Matson Funds New CBPP Scholarship for Leadership Diversity

February 11, 2022

A new $5,000 annual scholarship developed by Matson provides financial assistance for tuition and other related educational expenses for students majoring in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP).

Understanding supply chain management and global logistics is a critical piece of a thriving economy. Students in CBPP’s undergraduate and graduate programs can take advantage of Alaska’s location as a global logistics hub. “If you can manage logistics in Alaska, you can manage it anywhere in the world,” said Darren Prokop, CBPP professor of logistics.

The Matson scholarship is designed to enhance the educational experience of all students at UAA and ensure a more diverse student population by prioritizing candidates who identify as supporting diversity, inclusion and equity in relation to social justice, and are committed to academic excellence.

“Funding post-secondary scholarships like this is part of Matson’s commitment to increase diversity in the transportation and global logistics industry,” said Bal Dreyfus, Senior Vice President of Matson’s Alaska division. “As an organization, we value the benefits of higher education and giving back to Alaska in ways that promote academic success, diversity, inclusion and equality. We are pleased to support the university and students in the College of Business and Public Policy through this scholarship.”

Applications for the Matson scholarship are due by February 15, 2022. Many other scholarships are available through the UA Foundation, including more than two dozen specifically for CBPP students. Students may apply online through the UA Online and the Kaleidoscope scholarship portal.
