College of Business and Public Policy Earns AACSB Accreditation Extension

April 12, 2021

The College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) at the University of Alaska Anchorage has received an extension of accreditation of its business programs by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

The extension was granted after a rigorous review process led by deans from highly regarded colleges of business and management outside Alaska. This review occurs every five years and is part of a continuous improvement process that ensures CBPP incorporates contemporary best practices into its programs.

“The faculty and staff of CBPP are dedicated to our students' success,” said Interim Dean John Nofsinger. “That is why they worked diligently to demonstrate our high-quality business education and experiences to the accreditation team. That effort was rewarded with the continuation of our AACSB accreditation.”

“The AACSB accreditation is designed to foster student success through innovation, engagement, and positive societal impact,” said Associate Dean Terry Nelson. “This process gave faculty and staff the opportunity to demonstrate and highlight how CBPP promotes and supports these standards.”

CBPP first earned AACSB accreditation more than 20 years ago. Fewer than 5% of all schools offering degree programs in business at the bachelor level or higher worldwide hold this distinction. “This accreditation helps assure our current and future students that their UAA business degree will be respected by employers and business graduate programs around the world,” said Nofsinger.

CBPP’s AACSB accreditation is among 26 that the university holds from specialized accrediting organizations. As a university, UAA has been accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) since 1974. NWCCU reaffirmed UAA’s accreditation in January 2019 specifying four commendations. UAA will undergo its mid-cycle NWCCU evaluation in fall 2021.
