PADM A671 - Arctic Policy, Sustainability and Governance
Northwest Alaska is experiencing changes in environmental conditions from climate change, a harbinger of likely effects on the rural and remote community sustainability. Impacts on Northwest Arctic Borough communities include accelerated coastal and riverine erosion, melting permafrost, black carbon deposition, ocean acidification, changes in subsistence patterns, food insecurity, and severe winter storms. We address progress and challenges in environmental stewardship and sustainable development through the governance and scientific efforts spearheaded by the 8-nation Arctic Council.
