MBA Student Mario Roncador wins the Best Paper Award at SOBIE 2016

April 18, 2016

During the Spring semester 2016, College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) student Mario Roncador worked on a research project with the guidance of Dr. Ajit Dayanandan as final capstone of his MBA.

The research places itself in the finance-accounting world and examines the nature and extent of earnings management (the non-cash component of earnings) of non-financial firms in United States over the various business cycles. The study also examines the behavior of accrual management after the enactment of Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

He wrote a paper entitled “Business Cycle and Accruals” and presented it at the 18th Society of Business, Industry, and Economics (SOBIE) Conference in Destin, Florida on April 14th.

Mario’s research paper invoked much curiosity and debate and won appreciation from the faculty members at the conference and his research paper was awarded with Best Student Paper Award. His goal is to publish it on an academic journal soon. This achievement is the proof of the academic excellence of CBPP and the involvement of students in research activities of the UAA.

SOBIE is a leading academic conference for small and regional universities, attracting national and international academics. Since its beginning, SOBIE has made a commitment to advance the academic and career opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students.
