Dr. Sandra G. Ehrlich Receives the UAA CAFÉ Oh Wow! Award for Advancing Team-Based Learning Faculty Development Initiatives

Dr. Sandra EhrlichApril 11, 2016— In recognition of Exemplary Service for Advancing Faculty Excellence, CBPP Associate Professor of Management & Marketing, Dr. Sandra G. Ehrlich, received the 2016 Faculty Development Award from the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ) for advancing Team-Based Learning Faculty Development initiatives at UAA.

“UAA depends upon the dedication and generosity of UAA faculty and staff to ensure the continuous improvement of teaching system-wide. Dr. Sandra Ehrlich is a true Team-Based Learning, (TBL), champion who has gone above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of faculty development initiatives. This award highlights Sandra’s efforts in faculty development, excellence in colleague-to-colleague training sessions, and recognition of her national certification as a Consultant-Trainer in Team-Based Learning,” said CAFÉ Interim Director, Shawnalee Whitney.  

 

CAFÉ Oh Wow! Faculty Development Award Ehrlich received the award at the 8th Annual Faculty Development Appreciation and Award Ceremony. Sponsored by CAFÉ, the event showcases and celebrates faculty development initiatives throughout the UAA system. CAFÉ Oh Wow! (COW) Faculty Development Award recipients receive highly coveted bovine-themed statues along with appreciative “moos” from the audience for their exemplary contributions to faculty development initiatives across the UAA system.

 

“As an Associate Professor in Management & Marketing in CBPP, my goal is to continue to hone my professional development to improve teaching, promote student success, and build a stronger faculty community across the UAA family,” said Ehrlich.

 

“I was interviewed last week by a CBPP student enrolled in a Journalism course. She asked me what I wanted my UAA legacy to be. Without hesitation, I answered that I want my students to remember that I care. I care about their professional development. I care about helping them enhance their critical Business Communication skills and core competencies vital to their success in the marketplace. And, I care about sharing my time and expertise with my UAA colleagues to enrich professional faculty development,” said Ehrlich.

 

CAFÉ Oh Wow! (COW) AwardUAA CAFÉ Contributions Dr. Sandra Ehrlich introduced Team-Based Learning at the New Faculty Orientation in August. She facilitated two training sessions in 2015-2016, including a half-day faculty development workshop, “TBL 101”, in November 2015, and a CAFÉ presentation, “Improving Facilitation Tips to Engage Students in the Team-Based Learning (TBL) or Flipped Classroom” in April 2016. She received her Team-Based Learning Trainer-Consultant Certification from the Team-Based Learning Collaborative in January 2016. In recognition of this achievement, she was named the UAA CAFÉ Team-Based Learning (TBL) Faculty Associate in February 2016.

Two recent national research studies on unusually effective universities posit investment in faculty development is one of the top ways a university can increase retention rates and student success. “I look forward to continuing to support and help faculty explore ways to engage their students by integrating innovative pedagogies like Team-Based Learning into their courses,” said Ehrlich.

The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ) is a colleague-to-colleague teaching and learning center that promotes excellence and innovation in teaching, research, creative activity, and engagement in an atmosphere of collegiality. CAFÉ offers workshops, events, and other assistance to faculty on all five UAA campuses.

Dr. Sandra G. Ehrlich is an Associate Professor of Management & Marketing in the College of Business & Public Policy. She teaches Business Communication. An active member of the UAA CAFÉ Team-Based Learning Faculty Learning Community, she received her Team-Based Learning Trainer-Consultant Certification from the Team-Based Learning Collaborative in January 2016. She serves as the UAA CAFÉ Team-Based Learning (TBL) Faculty Associate.
