2015-16 CBPP Leadership Fellows Cohort Announced

The College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) celebrated the latest cohort to be named to the college’s Leadership Fellows program on Friday, September 11th, at a reception in the UAA Student Union Den.

The reception, sponsored by Northrim Bank, UAA Alumni Relations, and Pita Pit highlighted the pairing of 22 exceptional graduate and undergraduate students with mentors from Anchorage’s business community for a year of one-on-one coaching and leadership training. UAA Provost Samuel Gingerich and CBPP Dean Rashmi Prasad were on hand Friday to welcome the new cohort of mentors and fellows into the program.

The purpose of the program is to identify and prepare Alaska future leaders for success through the personal support and guidance of experienced and accomplished business or nonprofit leaders. Fellows were chosen after an application and interview process. Mentors were selected based on their fit with students’ career goals and fields of interest.

“This program has expanded beyond our expectations and this is mainly due to the significant response from Anchorage’s business leaders. In 2013, the program was conducted as a pilot with four students. Today we have 22 students in the program,” said Dr. Terry Nelson, who is the program director and teaches leadership and organizational behavior courses at UAA.

Starting its third year, the program is open to undergraduate and graduate business majors. For the first time, all graduate majors are represented. This is the first year that students in the Master of Public Administration and Master of Science Global Supply Chain Management will participate along with the Master of Business Administration students.
