WPMRE Movers & Shakers: Robert Erickson

Robert Erickson is a senior in the Weidner Property Management and Real Estate Program at UAA. He says he was initially interested in the program, because it provided a focus for him to advance in his business career. “I saw it as a great opportunity to learn about property management and real estate to then potentially invest in property,” says Erickson.

Startup ‘Vertical Harvest’ in the News

College of Business and Public Policy Graduate Linda Janes (MBA 2012) co-founded the startup Vertical Harvest Hydroponics (VHH). Recently VHH has been generating a lot of interest, including a news story by local CBS affiliate KTVA Channel 11. Watch the news story to learn more about VHH and their mission to bring fresh produce to remote locations that must otherwise use days, or even weeks old product.

Gunnar Knapp and His ‘Budget Blocks’

On September 19th ISER and Alaska Common Ground co-hosted the "Forum on Alaska's Fiscal and Economic Future". ISER Director/Professor Gunnar Knapp went all out for the event and created some very large "Budget Blocks". They help visually demonstrate the relative scales of Alaska's budget, deficit, savings accounts, and various potential options for filling the deficit (e.g. income taxes, budget cuts, etc.). The blocks were a great way to aid understanding of some of the challenges faced trying to balance Alaska's budget. Gunnar is scheduled to give a talk at CBPP on October 9th about Alaska’s budget situation, held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Rasmuson Hall, Room 117.

Professors Ajit Dayanandan and Han Donker Receive Recognition

College of Business and Public Policy Professors Ajit Dayanandan and Han Donker published a research paper with Sapan Patniak, entitled “ERP system implementation announcements: Does the market cheer or jeer the adopters and vendors?” in the International Journal of Accounting and Information Management (IJAIM). Their paper was chosen as a Highly Commended Paper and the editorial team of Emerald Insight stated that this paper was one of the most impressive pieces of work the team has seen throughout 2014.
