Why are you a member of the American Marketing Association Alaska Chapter?
I enjoy networking with people in the marketing community. I also like to bring my students to AMA meetings so they meet business people and practice their business etiquette.

What got you interested in marketing?
I worked for the Anchorage Daily News from 1980-1985 as a retail ad rep. I loved it. I began studying marketing. I wanted to improve my competence in the field so I could help my accounts make better marketing decisions for their businesses.

How do you feel about the future of marketing in Anchorage?
Even though Alaska is experiencing a recession, businesses need to keep marketing otherwise residents will forget about them. Also, with the growth of online media, small business owners need to continue developing their skills—thus the need for the AMA—or hiring marketing experts. I think there’s a relatively positive future for marketers in Anchorage.
